Ken Fulk is a designer of experiences big and small. He is renowned for his layered interiors and over-the-top parties. The Virginia-born designer has spent the last 20 years developing a business about turning his clients’ dreams into reality.
With a team of 50 “magic makers” to help bring his ideas to life, Ken Fulk leads a team of architects, designers, branding and event specialists in both San Francisco and New York. The Designer has become the curator of lifestyles, not only designing homes, restaurants and hotels but also choreographing unforgettable weddings, parties and family getaways.
The San Francisco–based designer had bought an early 1900s brick palazzo, just off Folsom Street, that he dubbed into the Magic Factory and filled with dozens of hard-working conjurers. Their output ranged from lavish parties, like the Big Sur wedding of Facebook billionaire Sean Parker, to extravagant renovations of some of the grandest houses in the Bay Area.
As the workspace in the Magic Factory expanded, so did the kinds of projects Fulk was asked to undertake. Already designing fantasy backdrops for San Francisco’s blue bloods and newly moneyed techies, he created a club where they could mingle.
“IT’S ABOUT BRINGING THE TATTOO ARTIST AND THE JAZZ MUSICIAN AND THE SOCIALITE AND THE SOFTWARE BILLIONAIRE TOGETHER – TO AVOID THE USUAL SELF SEGREGATION” Ken Fulk
The attention Ken Fulk pays to the “reveal” is a big part of what makes his practice special. Some clients asked the designer to turn a house outside Palm Springs into a place where they could “dance on the table,” he says. A year later, Ken had given them just that.
“WE TRY TO MAKE EVERY MOMENT IN OUR CLIENTS LIVES MATTER”
The Designer has expanded his impact around the globe. In addition to current residential work from Mexico to Miami and Provence to Provincetown, Ken Fulk is making his mark in New York with a new concept for rental residences on West 38th Street.
