100 Top Product Designer: Studio Nendo

The Studio Nendo is a design firm founded by the top product designer Oki Sato, with offices in Tokyo and Milan. Studio Nendo’s work centers around simple and contemporary design concepts adapted to the furniture, installations, interiors, lighting, industrial design, household products, and art objects. Owned by Oki Sato, the name of this design studio has a special meaning: do you want to discover?

“If I focus on only one or two projects, I guess I can only think about one or two projects. When I start thinking about working on close to 400 projects, it relaxes me. It’s like a top; when it is spinning very fast it is stable and when it starts to spin slowly it starts to get wobbly.”

In Japanese, Nendo means “modeling with clay” and stands for the playful yet very lucid approach the design studio pursues in the development and creation of its projects. Oki Sato founded the design studio in Tokyo in 2003: The Studio Nendo is always concerned with providing something special and a brief escape from everyday life. This dynamic goal is applied to a wide variety of product designs and to household goods concepts and architecture.
