As one of the best product designers on the planet, Marc Newson has been described as the most influential designer of his generation. He has worked across a wide range of disciplines, producing everything from furniture and household objects to bicycles and cars, private and commercial aircraft, yachts, various architectural commissions, and signature sculptural pieces for clients across the globe. For this reason, One Hundred Edition brings to you some of his most iconic pieces!
Born in Sydney, Marc Newson spent much of his childhood traveling in Europe and Asia. The top product designer started experimenting with furniture design as a student and, after graduation, was awarded a grant from the Australian Crafts Council with which he staged his first exhibition.
Marc Newson is the only product designer represented by the Gagosian Gallery, and leading museums around the world have hosted solo retrospective exhibitions of his work. Notorious for his socially significant position with design curators from MOMA, SFMOMA, Vitra Design Museum, and London’s Design Museum, Marc Newson has now intruded the home and commercial furniture markets with a characteristically stylish range of modern sofas and tables.
His work is displayed in the permanent collections of many major museums and contemporary art galleries including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), V&A Museum (London), Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris), Vitra Design Museum (Germany), Museum Angewandte Kunst (Frankfurt), Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Israel Museum (Jerusalem) and Powerhouse Museum (Sydney).
