Recognized as one of the best interior designers in Portugal, Nini Andrade da Silva was in this year’s panel of speakers of the Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit 2019 in Oporto, Portugal. Born in Funchal, Madeira Island, Nini is graduated in Design and Marketing and simultaneously pursued further academic and professional experience abroad, where she studied and worked in New York, London, Paris, South Africa, and Denmark. Her homeland, Madeira, is unquestionably one of the main inspirations for her creative work and unique design. That can definitely be seen in some examples of her work such as the Garota do Calhau collection, profoundly inspired by the pebbles on that island. According to her: “Madeira has always given me much peace, much freedom, not to mention the sea, the light. And I think a person who’s in this environment has to create.”
The known bespoke designer is definitely international energy when it comes to promoting Portuguese craftsmanship through her luxury interior design projects. About her design style, she states that it’s definitely “minimalistic with a little bit of soul to it”.
Nini Andrade Silva has worked in different countries and dealt with different cultures has given her a unique sensibility to distinct cultures. From that experience, she became more aware of some cultural differences from country to country and from culture to culture. In parallel to her amazing career with internationally acknowledged work in contemporary interior design and architecture, Nini Andrade da Silva embraced two great passions: painting and helping the needy, being a marvelous presence in museums around the world, namely in Portugal, Ireland, and New York with her included paintings in one of the largest collections of Contemporary Art in the world –the Berardo Collection.
